Research Affiliates

riskcenter_affiliates

Research Affiliates are ETH scientists with particularly close ties to the Risk Center. Often, they have been key actors of Risk Center activities (seminars, workshops, lectures, research projects, etc). They may use resources of the Risk Center and in exchange stand ready as expert interlocutors for the Center’s future projects.

Recognized for their scholarship in their respective fields, the Research Affiliates advance the Risk Center’s major research themes in collaboration with ETH faculty. While "Risk Center Research Affiliate" is not an honorary title, we would like to acknowledge the contributions they make to the intellectual life of the Risk Center.

Dr. Sandra Andraszewicz

Enlarged view: Rebekka Burkholz

external pageSandra is a senior researcher and a project leader in behavioral finance at the Chair of Cognitive Science of ETH Zurich. She graduated from the University of Utrecht, University of Edinburgh, University of Basel and AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, where she studied cognitive sciences, statistical and empirical methods and risk management. Her research focuses on human behavior, risk taking, decision making, investment and impact of complex uncertain events on individual decision processes. Within the ETH Risk Center, Sandra supervised a project on expert judgment in the Risk Case Study Challenge with Credit Suisse, gives a regular a lecture for the course Introduction to Risk Modelling and Management and is a leading researcher in the Future Resilience Program at the Singapore-ETH Center. Also, she offers a course in understanding human behavior for Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) students. Sandra actively collaborates with the Risk Center partners, such as SwissRe and Zurich Insurance, based on educational and knowledge exchanges. He became a Risk Center Research Affiliate in March 2021.

Arnaud is a postdoctoral researcher in applied economics at the Chair of Integrative Risk Management and Economics, ETH Zurich. His research mainly focuses on decision-making related to environmental risks, with a specific interest for climate change and natural catastrophes. He teaches a course on the Economics of Climate Change in the Autumn semester at ETH. He became a Risk Center Research Affiliate in March 2021.

Dr. Yves Reuland

yvesreuland affiliate

Yves is a postdoctoral researcher at the Chairs of Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering and of Structural Mechanics and Monitoring, ETH Zurich. His research efforts focus on deploying machine-learning and probabilistic tools to fuse mechanics-based simulations, sensor-and-inspection data as well as regional exposure models to improve dynamic risk-and-consequence predictions for residential building stocks. Bridging the gap between advanced seismic performance evaluation of single structures and regionally aggregated modelling of asset portfolios, he studies the resilience of communities facing natural hazards. Trying to predict, and ultimately reduce, the societal consequences of earthquakes, he is particularly interested in the temporal dimension of risk and recovery, which is reflected by dynamic updates of seismic-risk predictions and implementation of early-warning approaches to increase short-term resilience and long-term functional recovery. Yves graduated in structural engineering at EPFL Lausanne with a PhD on risk-informed post-earthquake decision-making for buildings, using sensor data collected in buildings.
